For me that's Weddings, Documentaries, Commercial and Portraits. I have multiple Shared Folders on NAS for different types of photoshoot categories. My NAS file folder naming is pretty easy. Once editing is complete I export as full size JPGs into a specific folder that I will explain below. While editing I am selecting favorites and rating some key moments/images as they could be helpful in a blog post or certain sections of my portfolio or client gallery. This gives me 3 backups locally with my computer syncing to the cloud via backblaze.
Meanwhile I'll leave the photos on my memory card as one form of backup, and another copy on my NAS as another. Once I complete a session I download it onto my desktop and it will stay there until the project is edited. I don't use Photo Station so I can't comment on that. I've been doing professional photography for about 10 years and I think I have an easy and intuitive organization strategy for working in Lightroom while using a NAS. To get the best of both worlds I would need to have all of my RAW files and all of my final JPEG's in the top-level folder, which to me seems like it would be a huge mess. This makes finding folders again within Lightroom very inconvenient as it only sees the name of the folder I added to the library which would always be 'RAW'. The problem with this is that if I have my RAW files in a sub-folder called "RAW" is that I end up with a lot of folders called "RAW" in Lightroom, instead of the event name. However, the only way I can see to do this is to have all of my Final JPEG files loose in the top-level folder and NOT in a sub-folder. I would like ONE main folder structure that lets me view my "Final" photos without duplicating anything. So if I could set Photo Station to only show photos from sub-folders called "Final", which would allow me to keep the RAW's loose at the top-level to make Lightroom naming easier, then this would make my life so much easier. While you can ignore file types, it has no way to for example only show files from a folder with a specific name. Limitations with Photo Station that don't make things easier: Having to transfer the photos from the "Final" folder in Photo Storage to a newly created folder in Photos, and then keep that updated with any changes to any Final images, is not ideal. It's just a bit of a pain in the ass having duplication.
